Caillou Noir International Oriented Meteorite Contest, July 2006
to see the winners, click on: RESULTS
As every year, Caillou Noir is proud to propose to the meteorite community its new international meteorite contest.
The purpose of the contest is to localize the smallest oriented meteorite present in worldwide collections.
The weight of the meteorite will be taken into account to determine the world wide smallest oriented meteorite. Weights in grammes, centigrams, milligrams if necessary.
Only oriented meteorites will be taken into account for the contest. Flight oriented shape is the first criteria. Only Drop shape, cone, shield, will be admitted. Rims or flow lines are welcome.
The contest is open from July 6 till July 24, 24 h UTC.
To apply one should just send an email with his coordinates to fred@caillou-noir.com and send a photo of the smallest oriented meteorite of her/his collection. Valid photos will show clearly She/he will also give all details about her/his meteorite, such as dimension, type, classification, where and when found. Dimensions, in millimeters, classification according to Met. Bull.
The winner will receive as prize a shield oriented meteorite from Caillou Noir Collection from the same fall/find as the meteorite below.
If two different
meteorites happen to have the same weight and to be the 2 smallest world wide
present in collection meteorites, the winner will be the first to find from
which find/fall the meteorite below comes.

| THIS LAST ONE, SENT BY NELSON COULD NOT ENTER THE CONTEST, SORRY NELS: Meteoritical dust (stone or iron?!!!) | |||||
We thank you all for the high interest that you have shown in this contest. Paul Gessler, the winner of the "oriented stony meteorite contest" will receive an oriented Taza of 1.90g and measuring 12x9x4mm. As unfortunately nobody could provide an oriented iron meteorite smaller than the one shown by Caillou Noir, the winner of the "oriented iron meteorite contest" is Michel!
| ORIENTED TAZA - 1.90g - Dimensions: 12x9x4mm: WON BY PAUL GESSLER | |||||
As mentioned above, we could not take the meteorite dust into the contest as it is not possible to know whether it is an iron or a stony meteorite, and moreover it is not a classified meteorite that has been named by the Nom. Com. of the Meteoritical Society. But we wanted to show it as it is an interesting one, when you know that it was caught by Nelson himself!
A special reward to Robert Matson - 3.920g Lucerne-Valley 021 - who found it himself. What an eagle eye you must have, Rob!!! Congratulations.
This contest was a real success and should any of you like to propose another contest in the future, we will try to take part with pleasure!
